The British government under the leadership of the prime minister, Theresa May, has appointed a Ghanaian scholar, Sam Gyimah as Universities and Science Minister for England.

Sam Gyimah was once the Conservative MP for East Surrey in 2010 and was born in Buckinghamshire even though he spent parts of his childhood years in Ghana.

The British-born Ghanaian has a great educational background having studied philosophy, politics and economics at Somerville College, Oxford.

He also served as a government whip and was parliamentary private secretary to the former Prime Minister, David Cameron, from 2012 to 2013.

Taking to Twitter after his appointment, Sam Gyimah expressed his preparedness to work hard for the progress of the British economy.
