The Ahafo Youth For Accountable Governance (AYAG) has expressed their displeasure about the emergence of vigilante groups and the Delta Force of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the country. About 50 members of pro-NPP group, Delta Force stormed a Kumasi circuit Thursday which tried 13 of its members for a violent attack last month. Below is the press release:
“We the Ahafo Youth for Accountable Governance (AYAG) wishes to express our worry and displeasure at the rate at which, what we describe as ‘Declaration of war on the rule of law by the Invincible forces and the Delta Force’ is gradually gaining roots in the governance processes of our dear nation Ghana. So far, two out of the three arms of government (namely the Judiciary and Executive) had been undermined by these Akufo Addo thugs.
AYAG is suprised at the rate at which the President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo and his party the NPP had decided to sit idle and allow these THUGS to undermine the authority of the state. The very authority which he sworn to protect and uphold on 7th January 2017.
AYAG is therefore calling on the Christian Council, National House of Chiefs and all civil society organizations and groups to rise up and speak against this act of impunity.
AYAG is also calling on all the Youth who are both natives and residents of the Ahafo area not to associate themselves with any Militant group intended to undermine the very democratic principles we had adopted for ourselves as a country since the commencement of the fourth republic.
Meanwhile AYAG wants to know why the national security minister lied to Parliament that, the Delta Force does not exist.
AYAG wants to know why the regional police commander decided to assign a few policemen including a pregnant police woman to escort these harden criminals to court, instead of a beefed security.”
Speaking to Radio Latenu news, Mr. Richard Merz, the General secretary of AYAG highlighted that the emergence of these vigilante groups is likely to jeopardize the security of the nation.
He further called on all and sundry to speak against this unethical act of the Delta Force and also urged H.E. Nana Akuffo Addo to aid security officials to maintain the peace we are enjoying in the country. He then charged the youth of Ahafo not to engage themselves with these groups.
When further quizzed on what they (AYAG) will do to end this act of the Delta force Mr. Richard Merz added that AYAG will embark on peaceful demonstration to show to the world that they are strongly against the act of the delta force and that Ghana is a peaceful country.
